The Purple Line, owned by the Mass Rapid Transit Authority (MRTA), is operated under concession by Bangkok Expressway and Metro Public Company Limited (BEM).

Japan Transportation Technology (Thailand) Co., Ltd. (JTT) has been contracted by BEM to provide comprehensive maintenance services for four key subsystems, i.e., Rolling Stock, Depot Workshop Equipment, Power Supply, and Trackwork of the Purple Line. The contract spans 10 years, ensuring safe, reliable, and comfortable passenger services, and is expected to be extended further.

Through this partnership, JTT applies its expertise in preventive, corrective, and risk-based maintenance to support world-class performance and long-term operational sustainability of the Purple Line.


JTT’s Purple Line Railway System Maintenance:

  • Rolling Stock Maintenance
    Responsible for preventive, corrective, and overhaul maintenance of:
    • 21 3-car trainsets
    • Driver training simulator, including instructor operation system, simulated driving cab, track image display, and supporting facility/power systems
  • Depot Workshop Equipment Maintenance
    Responsible for preventive, corrective, and overhaul maintenance of:
    • 52 types of depot workshop equipment, including train washing plants and service vehicles
  • Power Supply System Maintenance
    Maintains both AC and DC power systems:
    • AC system: 115kV & 69kV switchgear, transformers, neutral earthing resistors, 24kV switchgear, service transformers, and auxiliary systems (batteries, UPS, standby generators, ITB)
    • DC system: Rectifier transformers, rectifiers, 750V switchers, load break switches, overvoltage protection, emergency traction tripping, stray current monitoring, and stinger system power supply
  • Trackwork and Third Rail Maintenance
    Responsible for preventive, corrective maintenance including replacement of
    • Track system: Mainline and depot tracks, turnouts, rail expansion joints, level crossings, buffer stops, signs, and markers
    • Third rail system: 750V DC conductor rails, splice joints, expansion joints, ramps, supports, insulators, anchors, cable terminals, protective covers, and fasteners

Maintenance support:

  • Fault Reporting Centre Department
    Manages the fault reporting centre and CMMS data, supporting management by monitoring asset management processes and tracking operational performance
  • Store Department
    Ensures availability and control of materials and tools, including:
    • Receiving and inspecting goods
    • Storage and stock management
    • Material issuance and returns
    • Scrap, disposal, repair, and calibration
    • Maintaining Material Master Data (MMD) in CMMS
  • HSQE Department
    Oversees safety, health, quality, and environmental compliance. Works with Maintenance Managers to ensure staff follow procedures and develop policies to enhance efficiency while complying with laws, regulations, standards, and KPIs. Key responsibilities:
    • Auditing asset management processes
    • Supporting operational and asset performance improvements
    • Providing consultation on legal and regulatory compliance
